| ●As a Member of the Toyota Group | |
| The history of the Toyota Group started when
"The No. One Inventor of Japan", Sakichi Toyoda, invented his epoch-making
automatic loom in 1902. At that time this invention promised a great future for Japan.
Sakichi, the founder of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, then directed his inventive energy to
the fledgling automobile industry. He urged his first son, Kiichiro, (the founder of our
company) to go into car production. Kiichiro, who shared his father's energy, started work
on the research and development of automobile. Later, in 1934 a steel manufacturing department was established in Toyoda Automatic Loom Works for the purpose of research and development of "specialty steel" for the production of cars from engines to car bodies. It was the beginning of Aichi Steel Corporation. In 1940 the department separated from Toyoda Automatic Loom Works and became an independent company,"Totoda Steel Works", later becoming "Aichi Steel Corporation". (see History). At present Aichi Steel Works works closely with the Toyota Group which are active in a wide variety of industrial fields including the automobile industry. In addition, Aichi Steel is a growing presence in other fields such as ships, railway trains, electronics related industries. Recently Aichi Steel Corporation has been promoting the development of electronic materials and magnetic parts and has commercialized magnetic attachments for dentistry and plastic magnets for housing-related appliances. In this way it is now developing its markets in the medical and information processing equipments. |
