Aichi Steel Corporation (Headquarters: Tokai-city, Aichi prefecture;
President: Yuji Shibata) and Toshiba Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo;
President: Tadashi Okamura) have reached a basic agreement that Aichi Steel shall acquire
the land of the former Toshiba Gifu factory.
Aichi Steel has decided to acquire this land as a mass-production site of its electronic
and magnetic components. The company judged that its existing facilities in Chita and
Higashiura factories do not have enough space to expand the electronic and magnetic
component business, although production facilities have been maintained.
In the new site, Aichi Steel plans to construct a mass production line of Magneto
Impedance (MI) sensor elements first, and then build a mass-production line of the
neodymium anisotropy bond magnets in the near future.
The company will begin the construction of the MI sensor element mass-production line to
start operation in March 2004. It plans full-scale operations within the year 2005 at the
latest, expecting 10 million units of MI sensor element production per month, and around
\10 billion sales per year.
