Exhibitions of Automotive Engineering Exposition 2021 ONLINE

We exhibit GMPS (Global Magnetic Positioning System) using high-sensitivity magnetic sensors and other devices at automotive engineering exposition 2021 ONLINE (https://aee.expo-info.jsae.or.jp/en/online/) held from May 26 to July 30, 2021. Please refer to the exhibit on GMPS technology, which are currently undergoing demonstration experiments in various parts in Japan.

■Magnetic Positioning System "GMPS"

Global Magnetic Positioning System (GMPS) is an autonomous driving assist system that works by detecting magnetic markers installed in the center of lanes with a magnetic sensor and steers the vehicle to continuously pass over the markers.
GMPS provides accurate vehicle positioning in a range of conditions from snow to heavy rain, in narrow driveways and even in tunnels.

■Ultra High Sensitive Magnetic Sensor "MI Sensor"

Our ultra-sensitive magnetic sensor "MI Sensor" detects weak magnetism emitted by magnetic markers with high accuracy.

Magnetic Sensor Unit

A sensor unit incorporating multiple MI sensors is mounted on the vehicle, and the lateral position of the vehicle is detected by detecting magnetism from the magnetic markers.

■Magnetic Marker

Markers of low-cost ferrite plastic magnets are placed on the road at regular intervals.
Magnetic markers are equipped with RFID, and the position of the markers is also notified to the vehicles.
This has also enabled us to reduce costs and accelerate the installation of our markers.

Unique Signal Processing

For accurate position detection, the weak signal of the magnetic marker must be separated from the surrounding magnetic noise.
Aichi Steel has succeeded in developing a noise processing technology, which extracts characteristic magnetic field patterns made by magnetic markers.

Position Detection Accuracy

In the demonstration experiment, it was confirmed that the position detection error was +/-5 mm or less. Advanced position detection technology makes it possible to determine the exact position of a vehicle.
