Three elements of autonomous driving

Three elements of recognition, judgment,
and operation are indispensable for the realization of autonomous driving.

GMPS TECHNOLOGY belongs to the Self Position Estimation, which serves as the starting point for all autonomous driving, and we are aiming to be a category platformer that provides location intelligence.

GMPS advantage

Position can be detected with a single system in all situations.

Currently, R&D on automated driving technologies is progressing around the world. In mountainous areas and in tunnels, GPS does not reach areas, and rainfall and snowfall obscure sections of the road, which reduces the reliability of image recognition for cameras. The Magnetic Positioning System (GMPS) enables automotive position estimation in all situations.

Areas where optical devices are not good:

  • Backlight

Areas where GPS is not strong:

  • Underground

It is GMPS Technology that supports image recognition by GPS and cameras and enables automated driving.

Three Characteristics

01

Ultra-sensitive magnetic sensor

The newly developed ultra-sensitive magnetic sensor "MI Sensor" detects the weak magnetism from the magnetic marker with high accuracy and indexes the precise position. The MI sensor for this automobile is 100 times more sensitive than geomagnetic sensors for electronic compasses.

02

Low magnetic ferrite magnetic marker

Developed low-magnetic-force ferrite magnetic markers to match the high sensitivity of the MI sensor. Conventional NdFeB sintered magnet-type products have problems such as high cost, rust, susceptibility to brittle fracture, and strong attraction of iron. However, we have developed a ferrite magnetic marker that is inexpensive, does not rust, does not crack, and has a weak attractive force, thanks to our proprietary magnetic technology. Magnetic markers can be embedded in the ground or surface-mounted on the ground, both of which can be easily installed on the road.

03

Disturbance magnetic field noise elimination technology

For accurate position detection, the weak signal of the magnetic marker must be separated from the surrounding magnetic noise. Various disturbance magnetic fields exist, such as steel bridges, manhole covers, joints of viaducts and bridges, and oncoming and parallel-running vehicles. These fields are large and are 100 times larger than the magnetic marker signal to be installed. We have succeeded in developing a unique noise processing technology that responds only to the characteristic magnetic field patterns created by magnetic markers from these disturbance fields, enabling accurate extraction of marker signals.

With GMPS Technology,
a high-accuracy position detection of +/-5 mm is achieved.

GMPS's three distinctive Technologies allow you to estimate your car's position with a positional accuracy of +/-5mm from above a magnetic marker placed on the ground, even where GPS cannot reach, and where camera function is insufficient.
